Heart of the Valley offers routine annuals and wellness gynecology, and comprehensive reproductive and sexual health care. Our gynecology services are respectful and allow for time to talk about concerns, ask questions, participate in your care. You will not feel rushed or unheard.

Vaginal and Pelvic Pain/GSM

While concerns related to the pelvis and pelvic floor are incredibly common, and can include concerns such as painful sex, decreased sex drive, pelvic pain, bladder control issues, frequency or urgency of urination, these concerns are under-reported and under-recognized. Many of these concerns can increase after childbirth and during/after menopause.

Up to 15% of people in perimenapause, and 84% Postmenopausal women are affected by genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM), with symptoms impacting their daily life. The decrease in estrogen causes physical and functional changes to the vulva, vagina, bladder and urethra.

Lactation can also decrease estrogen resulting in changes to the vulva and vagina - this is referred to as genitourinary syndrome of lactation (GSL)

The changes which occur as we move towards, through, and beyond, Perimenopause and Menopause, are what I call, “the period of transition”. During this time, there are menstrual, hormonal, emotional, and physical changes. Susan Heinz is credentialed as a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP). Receive your Care during perimenopause and menopause by a MSCP and believer in aging well.
